Okay so one thing I've been asked to blog about is my workouts. How often do you workout? Whats your workout split? What do you do at the gym? Whats your favourite muscle group to work? How do you stay motivated? Do you do any cardio? Thoughts on fasted cardio?
I will take each question and answer below....
1) How often do you workout?
I personally workout a lot, its what I enjoy doing the most, its my 'me time' but that doesn't mean everyone should. I don't have a set number of rest days anymore, I rest when my body needs it. I think listening to your body is the most important thing.
2) Whats your workout split?
I don't really have a set 'plan' each week, as I said before I listen to my body. So if my legs are sore I don't work them.. simple. I tend to do separate days for Chest and tris, Back and bis, Shoulders and calves and then Legs. Although I have been experimenting with push and pull days. Recently I have been working abs about 3 times a week for 10 minutes.
3) What do you do at the gym?
Okay so I kinda answered that question above, but its mainly weights, a mixture of hypertrophy (for muscle growth i.e low reps heavy weight) and muscle endurance (high reps, lower weight). I also incorporate some TRX some times and I use a lot of supersets and drop sets to keep the heart rate up.
4) Whats your favourite muscle group to work?
This changes all the time! Currently I love doing shoulders/arms and legs as always. It usually depends on what my main goals are at that time.
5) How do you stay motivated?
Motivation is a big topic so I will do another blog post on it. Generally I am my own motivation, I only lack motivation when I'm tired or sick and then I listen to my body and either eat more or rest. As I have said before I eat a lot of food so I'm rarely too tired to exercise.
6) Do you do any cardio?
I have only recently started doing cardio again, for the sole reason that I actually enjoy it but I have to eat more to keep up with the extra calories burned. Despite enjoying it I also feel that some cardio is essential to a good cardio vascular (heart) health. But again each to their own...
7) Thoughts on fasted cardio?
I have never actually done it! I planned to once but then woke up so hungry that I needed food or I wouldn't have had the energy for a good workout. I know some people that really enjoy it but personally its not for me and its been scientifically proven that it doesn't hold any advantages to non-fasted cardio. My advice? Do what YOU enjoy and want!
